    وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ مَكَانَكُمْ أَنتُمْ وَشُرَكَآؤُكُمْ ۚ فَزَيَّلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ شُرَكَآؤُهُم مَّا كُنتُمْ إِيَّانَا تَعْبُدُونَ

    (28) And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day We will gather them all together - then We will say to those who associated others with Allāh, "[Remain in] your place, you and your 'partners.'"^[522] Then We will separate them,^[523] and their "partners" will say, "You did not used to worship us,^[524]

    [522]- Those they had associated with Allāh. [523]- From the believers. [524]- The inanimate objects, such as idols, will not have been aware of their worship of them. But those beings who consented to be worshipped will lie and deny it on the Day of Judgement.

    Tafsir as-Sa'di (Arabic)

    Covers verses 28

    {28} يقول تعالى: {ويوم نَحْشُرُهم جميعاً}؛ أي: نجمع جميع الخلائق لميعاد يوم معلوم، ونحضِرُ المشركين وما كانوا يعبدون من دون الله، {ثم نقولُ للذين أشركوا مكانَكم أنتم وشركاؤكم}؛ أي: الْزَمُوا مكانكم ليقعَ التَّحاكمُ والفَصْلُ بينكم وبينهم، {فَزَيَّلْنا بينَهم}؛ أي: فرَّقنا بينهم بالبعد البدني والقلبي، فحصلت بينَهم العداوةُ الشديدةُ بعد أن بَذَلوا لهم في الدُّنيا خالص المحبَّة وصفو الوداد، فانقلبت تلك المحبَّة والولاية بغضاً وعداوة. وتبرأ شركاؤهم منهم وقالوا: {ما كنتُم إيَّانا تعبدونَ}: فإننا ننزِّه الله أن يكون له شريكٌ أو نديدٌ.
