    قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

    (39) [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all

    {39} {قال ربِّ بما أغويتني لأزيِّنَنَّ لهم في الأرض}؛ أي: أزيِّن لهم الدنيا، وأدعوهم إلى إيثارها على الأخرى، حتى يكونوا منقادين لكلِّ معصيةٍ، {ولأغوِيَنَّهم أجمعين}؛ أي: أصدُّهم كلَّهم عن الصراط المستقيم، {إلاَّ عبادَك منهم المخلَصين}؛ أي: الذين أخلصتهم، واجتبيتهم لإخلاصهم وإيمانهم وتوكلهم.
