    فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

    (34) So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

    {34} {فأصابهم سيِّئاتُ ما عملوا}؛ أي: عقوبات أعمالهم وآثارها، {وحاق بهم}؛ أي: نزل {ما كانوا به يستهزئون}: فإنهم كانوا إذا أخبرتهم رسلُهم بالعذاب؛ استهزؤوا به، وسخروا ممَّن أخبر به، فحلَّ بهم ذلك الأمر الذي سخروا منه.
