   وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا

   (4) And We conveyed^[727] to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness."

   Covers verses 4

   {4} {وقَضَيْنا إلى بني إسرائيل}؛ أي: تقدَّمنا وعَهِدْنا إليهم وأخبرناهم في كتابهم أنهم لا بدَّ أن يقعَ: منهم إفسادٌ في الأرض مرتين بعمل المعاصي والبَطَر لنعم الله والعلوِّ في الأرض والتكبُّر فيها، وأنَّه إذا وقع واحدةٌ منهما؛ سلَّطَ الله عليهم الأعداء وانتقم منهم، وهذا تحذيرٌ لهم وإنذارٌ لعلَّهم يرجعون فيتذكَّرون.
