   ٱلزَّانِيَةُ وَٱلزَّانِى فَٱجْلِدُوا۟ كُلَّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا مِا۟ئَةَ جَلْدَةٍ ۖ وَلَا تَأْخُذْكُم بِهِمَا رَأْفَةٌ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۖ وَلْيَشْهَدْ عَذَابَهُمَا طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

   (2) The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse^[972] - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes,^[973] and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion [i.e., law] of Allāh,^[974] if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.

   Footnotes

   [972]- Either by voluntary confession of the offender or the testimony of four male witnesses to having actually seen the act take place. Otherwise, there can be no conviction. [973]- The ruling in this verse is applicable to unmarried fornicators. Execution by stoning is confirmed in the sunnah for convicted adulterers. [974]- i.e., Do not let sympathy for a guilty person move you to alter anything ordained by Allāh, for in His law is protection of society as a whole.

   {2} هذا الحكم في الزاني والزانية البكرين: أنَّهما يُجلد كلٌّ منهما مائة جلدةٍ، وأما الثيِّب؛ فقد دلَّت السنة الصحيحة المشهورة أنَّ حدَّه الرجم. ونهانا تعالى أن تأخُذَنا رأفةٌ بهما في دين الله تمنعُنا من إقامة الحدِّ عليهما، سواء رأفة طبيعيَّة، أو لأجل قرابة أو صداقة أو غير ذلك، وأنَّ الإيمان موجبٌ لانتفاء هذه الرأفة المانعة من إقامة أمرِ الله؛ فرحمتُه حقيقةً بإقامة الحدِّ عليه، فنحنُ وإن رَحِمْناه لِجَرَيان القدر عليه؛ فلا نَرْحَمُه من هذا الجانب. وأمَرَ تعالى أن يَحْضُرَ عذابَ الزانيين {طائفةٌ}؛ أي: جماعة من المؤمنين؛ ليشتهر ويحصُلَ بذلك الخزي والارتداع، وليشاهدوا الحدَّ فعلاً؛ فإنَّ مشاهدة أحكام الشرع بالفعل مما يَقْوى به العلم، ويستقرُّ بها الفهم، ويكونُ أقربَ لإصابة الصواب؛ فلا يزادُ فيه ولا ينقص. والله أعلم.
