    وَقَالُوا۟ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَمْوَٰلًا وَأَوْلَـٰدًا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

    (35) And they^[1235] said, "We are more [than the believers] in wealth and children, and we are not to be punished."

    {35} {وقالوا نحنُ أكثرُ أموالاً وأولاداً}؛ أي: ممَّن اتَّبع الحقَّ، {وما نحن بمعذَّبينَ}؛ أي: أولاً لسنا بمبعوثينَ؛ فإنْ بُعِثْنا؛ فالذي أعطانا الأموال والأولاد في الدنيا؛ سَيُعْطينا أكثر من ذلك في الآخرة، ولا يعذِّبُنا.
