    ٱسْتِكْبَارًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَكْرَ ٱلسَّيِّئِ ۚ وَلَا يَحِيقُ ٱلْمَكْرُ ٱلسَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِۦ ۚ فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا سُنَّتَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۚ فَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ ٱللَّهِ تَبْدِيلًا ۖ وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ ٱللَّهِ تَحْوِيلًا

    (43) [Due to] arrogance in the land and plotting of evil; but the evil plot does not encompass except its own people. Then do they await except the way [i.e., fate] of the former peoples? But you will never find in the way [i.e., established method] of Allāh any change, and you will never find in the way of Allāh^[1257] any alteration.^[1258]

    {43} وليس إقسامُهُم المذكورُ لقصدٍ حسنٍ وطلبٍ للحقِّ، وإلاَّ؛ لَوُفِّقوا له، ولكنه صادرٌ عن استكبارٍ في الأرض على الخلق وعلى الحقِّ، وبهرجةٍ في كلامهم هذا؛ يريدون به المكر والخداع، وأنَّهم أهل الحقِّ الحريصون على طلبه، فيغتر بهم المغترُّون، ويمشي خلفهم المقتدون، {ولا يَحيق المكرُ السيِّئُ}: الذي مقصودُهُ مقصودٌ سَيِّئٌ ومآله وما يرمي إليه سَيِّئٌ باطل {إلا بأهلِهِ}: فمكرُهُم إنَّما يعودُ عليهم. وقد أبان الله لعبادِهِ في هذه المقالات وتلك الإقسامات أنَّهم كَذَبَةٌ في ذلك مزوِّرون، فاستبان خِزْيُهُم، وظهرتْ فضيحتُهُم، وتبيَّن قصدُهم السيِّئُ، فعاد مكرُهُم في نحورهم، وردَّ الله كيدَهم في صدورهم، فلم يبقَ لهم إلاَّ انتظارُ ما يَحِلُّ بهم من العذابِ، الذي هو سنَّةُ الله في الأولين، التي لا تُبَدَّلُ ولا تُغَيَّرُ؛ أنَّ كلَّ مَن سار في الظلم والعناد والاستكبار على العباد أنْ تَحِلَّ به نقمتُه وتُسْلَبَ عنه نعمتُه، فليترقَّبْ هؤلاء ما فعل بأولئك.
