    وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ

    (66) And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?^[1277]

    Footnotes

    [1277]- Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) could have left man without means of guidance in the life of this world, although in His mercy He did not.

    {66} {ولو نشاءُ لَطَمَسْنا على أعيُنِهم}: بأن نُذْهِبَ أبصارَهم كما طَمَسْنا على نُطْقِهِم؛ {فاسْتَبَقوا الصراطَ}؛ أي: فبادروا إليه؛ لأنَّه الطريق إلى الوصول إلى الجنة. {فأنَّى يُبْصِرونَ}: وقد طُمِسَتْ أبصارُهم؟!
