    وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى لَّقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ

    (14) And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word^[1413] that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.

    {14} لما أمَرَ تعالى باجتماع المسلمين على دينِهِم، ونهاهم عن التفرُّق؛ أخبرهم أنَّهم لا يَغْتَرُّوا بما أنزل الله عليهم من الكتاب؛ فإنَّ أهل الكتاب لم يتفرَّقوا حتى أنزل الله عليهم الكتابَ الموجبَ للاجتماع، ففعلوا ضدَّ ما يأمر به كتابُهم، وذلك كلُّه بغياً وعدواناً منهم؛ فإنَّهم تباغضوا، وتحاسدوا، وحصلت بينهم المشاحنةُ والعداوةُ، فوقع الاختلافُ؛ فاحذَروا أيُّها المسلمون أن تكونوا مثلهم. {ولولا كلمةٌ سبقتْ من ربِّك}؛ أي: بتأخير العذاب القاضي إلى أجل مسمًّى، {لَقُضِيَ بينهم}: ولكنَّ حكمتَه وحلمه اقتضى تأخيرَ ذلك عنهم. {وإنَّ الذين أُورِثوا الكتابَ من بعدِهم}؛ أي: الذين ورثوهم، وصاروا خَلَفاً لهم ممَّن ينتسب إلى العلم منهم، {لَفي شكٍّ منهُ مريبٍ}؛ أي: لفي اشتباهٍ كثير يوقعُ في الاختلاف؛ حيث اختلف سَلَفُهم بغياً وعناداً؛ فإنَّ خلفهم اختلفوا شكًّا وارتياباً، والجميعُ مشتركون في الاختلاف المذموم.
