   إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَـٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنقُصُوكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَمْ يُظَـٰهِرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدًا فَأَتِمُّوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ عَهْدَهُمْ إِلَىٰ مُدَّتِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

   (4) Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allāh loves the righteous [who fear Him].

   Tafsir as-Sa'di (Arabic)

   Covers verses 4

   {4} أي: هذه البراءة التامَّة المطلقة من جميع المشركين، {إلَّا الذين عاهَدْتم من المشركين}: واستمرُّوا على عهدهم، ولم يجرِ منهم ما يوجبُ النقضَ؛ فلا نَقَصوكم شيئاً، ولا عاونوا عليكم أحداً؛ فهؤلاء أَتِمُّوا إليهم عهدهم إلى مدتهم قلَّت أو كثرت؛ لأنَّ الإسلام لا يأمر بالخيانة، وإنما يأمر بالوفاء. {إنَّ الله يحبُّ المتَّقين}: الذين أدَّوْا ما أمروا به، واتَّقوا الشرك والخيانة وغير ذلك من المعاصي.
