    إِنَّمَا يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَٱرْتَابَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِى رَيْبِهِمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ

    (45) Only those would ask permission of you who do not believe in Allāh and the Last Day and whose hearts have doubted, and they, in their doubt, are hesitating.

    {45} {إنما يستأذنك الذين لا يؤمنون بالله واليوم الآخر وارتابتْ قلوبُهم}؛ أي: ليس لهم إيمانٌ تامٌّ ولا يقينٌ صادقٌ؛ فلذلك قلَّت رغبتُهم في الخير، وجبنوا عن القتال، واحتاجوا أن يستأذنوا في ترك القتال. {فهم في رَيْبِهم يتردَّدون}؛ أي: لا يزالون في الشكِّ والحيرة.
